Welcome to PAV

What is PAV?

PAV stands for post-antibiotic vulvovaginitis. This randomised double-blind controlled trial is testing whether oral and /or vaginal lactobacillus can prevent thrush when women take antibiotics.

The PAV trial was finished in July 2003 on advice of the independent Data Monitoring Committee. At this time, 278 women had kindly taken part in the study.

The results were that the women taking either the oral or vaginal lactobacillus (or both) were as likely to develop thrush while taking antibiotics as the women taking the placebo medications.
